 June 28, 2018

China's key news website Gmw.cn started a series of charity live broadcasts in Beijing Youhuwanjia Elderly Care Center on May 31 to celebrate 40 years of reform and opening up policy and pay respects to the previous generation.

More than 20 popular network anchors participated in the activity, urging people to care for the old generation who have dedicated their youth to the reform and opening up during the past 40 years.

According to statistics, the number of viewers reached 13.2 million, exceeding the highest number of live online users by 850,000 during the live broadcast.

This event was sponsored by Gmw.cn, China Women's Development Foundation, and some other media, science and technology companies. In addition, instant music video platforms such as Weishi, Huoshan.com, and Momo also supported the charity event.

During the two-hour broadcast, viewers enjoyed performances of songs, crosstalks and dances. Moreover, organizers also arranged some magic and game sessions and invited model contestants to perform a wonderful show for people.

Sun Xingli, a 66-year-old actor, who worked in a dance troupe in north China's Heilongjiang Province, performed a widely circulated song Sunset Glow. Now, he is working in a folk chorus he co-founded years ago and constantly performs at local nursing homes.

He said after the performance, "I experienced the most difficult time 40 years ago, people should treasure the hard-won life that we are enjoying right now."

Sun Yanqi, a Shanghai native with over 1.8 million followers on a live broadcast platform, has been distributing positive energy among society as the charitable ambassador of Alibaba.

She not only performed for the seniors at the event but also launched a live broadcast to publicize this activity. She said, "Thanks to the contributions and hard work of people from the old generation, we are able to have such a wonderful life today. We really appreciate their dedication."

Li Zhenyu, nearly 81, started her career in 1958 and has been working in landscaping for 40 years. She said at the event, "We are thrilled to see the achievements of the 40 years of reform and opening up. We hope that young people from generation to generation will take over the baton of reform and continue to contribute to the development of society."

At the live broadcasting site, anchors interacted with followers to advocate for netizens to follow and participate in the charity event, and pay tribute to reform and opening up policy and people of that generation.

According to Deng Xu, general manager of Yixia Science and Technology Company, people from all walks of life have contributed to the achievements of reform and opening up. As an Internet company, they serve both online and offline users, and are also responsible for delivering positive energy and spirit to society via various forms.
