Caring Dentist Praises 40 yrs of Reform, Opening-up in China

An ethnic Korean woman from Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in northeast China's Jilin Province recently recalled the tremendous changes that have taken place in her family and society over the past 40 years since the implementation of reform and opening-up policy in China.

Wen Hushi, head of the local Modern Dental Clinic, is also president of Changchun Korean Women's Association (CKWA) and a member of Changchun Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Wen said the nation has undergone enormous changes over the past four decades and people's lives have changed remarkably.

"The improvement of our housing is a reflection of how living conditions have become better year by year," Wen said.

Aside from providing professional services for patients at work, she also actively takes part in public welfare activities.

Wen says that CKWA, with support from Changchun Women's Federation, has organized many social activities to help children with special needs.

By the time the "Surrogate Mother" project made its 45th financial aid delivery in March this year, an accumulated number of 1,604 students had obtained assistance valued at a total of 881,531 yuan over these years.

This year, 62 students received funds and among them 40 are from the Korean minority nationality group; 16 are Han; five are Hui; and, one is Manchu.

In 2015, Wen won the title of Most Touching Mother in Changchun, and in 2017 she was elected as a member of the touring group of ethnic minorities who visited large cities including Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou, in east China, to learn about the cities' fruitful achievements made since the implementation of reform and opening-up.

Wen attributed people's happy lives to the Party's leadership and its policy. She said she would follow the Party steadfastly and do her job assiduously under the lead of the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

Wen also promised that she would contribute her efforts to serving the public and helping bring about a stronger society.
