Education Studio in Chongqing Helps Strengthen Parent–Child Communication

Founded in 2014, the family education studio located in the Jiangbei District of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality aims at solving problems for parents, adolescents and society, helping to foster harmonious hearts, families and communities.

Sponsored by local working committees, sub-district offices and the local women's federation, the studio provides guidance to parents and teachers by helping to solve common problems in family education through lectures as well as individual counseling provided via phone, WeChat (the Chinese version of WhatsApp) and the Internet— promoting scientific family education, parents' educative capability and children's healthy growth.

Zhang Zikun, the director of the studio, has worked as a school principal and education researcher and continues his career in education after even after his retirement. He said the studio has cooperated with 13 local schools and built up remote teaching platforms to replenish traditional family education. Now the studio's website has been visited more than 1 million times and has benefited more than 80,000 people.

Zou Xiaobin, vice-director of the studio, has been awarded as a National Outstanding Mother and as a National March 8^th Red-Banner Pacesetter and has also received many other prizes in education. She said parents' major concerns are education and parenting. "Many parents complain about their children and the problems they have, but these problems are just the reflection of the parents themselves," said Zou. "I suggest to them calming down and solving their own problems first."

There is no such thing as "slow" children, the studio believes. As soon as children's thoughts or deficiencies are learned, there must be efficient methods put in place to help them improve.
