I have paid special attention to the development of migrant women and children in China. In the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, both of which were adopted during the conference, the girl-child is a critical area of concern.
Twenty years later, the theme of the Fourth World Conference on Women — 'Action for Equality, Development and Peace' — is becoming increasingly significant. A mother influences a family, and a family influences society.
Quoting the findings from our survey, I noted that reports involving women amounted to less than 4 percent of the front-page coverage in the 10 newspapers. I called for greater coverage of women's and gender-equality-related issues in Chinese media.
I began organizing volunteers — including mothers, government officials and university students — to encourage women to promote environmental protection in China.
I often carry out training on gender consciousness. At a discussion on how women pursue happiness, many women came to talk to me during the intervals and expressed thanks. I'm very motivated when I see them get inspiration and take delight.
