ACWF President Meets Visiting Singapore Delegation

Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and president of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met a delegation from Singapore on February 28 in Beijing.

The visiting group was led by Grace Fu, the Singaporean minister for Culture, Community and Youth. Fu is also president of the People's Action Party (PAP)'s Women's Group.

Shen spoke positively about female exchange among the two countries, and recalled that Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong last year.

Commenting on the importance of the top-level design of bilateral ties, President Xi proposed that high-level exchanges be maintained and communication with Singapore strengthened, Shen said.

Shen expected women in both countries to strengthen communication and cooperation; contribute their efforts in pushing forward the partnership of all-around cooperation in step with the times; and, promote friendship and regional stability.

Also, Shen made a brief introduction of the development achievements affecting Chinese women and their working conditions.

Fu expressed her thanks for the meeting with Shen and pledged to continue improving China-Singapore relations by deepening women's friendship between the two countries.

Fu accompanied Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean to attend the Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation, a high-level platform to discuss ways to deepen and broaden the nations' relationship.

At the meeting, officials in attendance included Xia Jie, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF; and, Stanley Loh Ka Leung, ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to China.
