The 23rd Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) was held on June 7 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the United States. Chinese candidate Mu Hong, former Director-General of the Liaison Department of the All-China Women's Federation, was elected a member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW Committee) during the meeting for the term 2025-2028.

Mu has long been committed to promoting exchanges between Chinese and foreign women and international women's cooperation. She has rich experiences in civil and public diplomacy.

The CEDAW is one of the most highly ratified international human rights conventions tasked with advancing gender equality and eliminating discrimination against women. The convention was adopted during the 34th UN General Assembly in 1979, and came into force as a treaty in 1981. The CEDAW Committee is a body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the CEDAW Convention. The CEDAW Committee is one of the 10 human rights treaties' agencies under the UN. Established in 1982, the CEDAW Committee is composed of 23 independent experts elected during the meeting of States Parties for each term of four years. The committee is mainly responsible for monitoring States Parties' implementation of the convention, considering relevant periodic reports and providing lists of issues.
