The family is a child's first classroom, and parents are a child's first teachers. Family education has a profound impact on a child's physical and mental development. Parents should educate their children in a scientific, effective way.
Family education has always been a hot topic of social concern in China. Long Guoying, a CPPCC National Committee member and president of Jiangxi Flight University, and Liu Xiaomin, a CPPCC National Committee member and research fellow of the National Science Library, under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, presented suggestions regarding family education during this year's session of the CPPCC National Committee.
High-quality family education can help promote the healthy growth of children, and it can help them achieve comprehensive development, said Long. During the session, she called for the development of an authoritative and professional family education sharing mechanism.
She suggested integrating high quality, family education resources, developing a series of authoritative materials on the guidance of family education, including how to register for marriage and prepare for pregnancy, what to do during pregnancy, how to take care of newborns, and how to raise children until adulthood.
Long also suggested the establishment of a system integrating online and offline family education services, so the courses on family education can be shared by everyone.
Liu suggested conducting various school- and community-centered family education guidance activities. She suggested relevant activities be held for parents, who would be divided into groups, based on age, to help them improve themselves.
Online training and hotline services should be offered to parents in rural areas, especially in remote regions, to guide them on how to communicate with their children, to help them solve problems related to family education, and to educate their children in an effective way, Liu added.
