Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), and Vice-Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council (NWCCW), met Amakobe Sande, UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) Representative to China, on February 15, 2023.
Huang outlined the fruitful results of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which was held in Beijing in October 2022. She explained the historic progress reached in Chinese women and children's development during the first decade of the new era. Huang said the Congress drew a grand blueprint of building a modern socialist country in all respects and advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. The most important achievement of the Congress is the election of the new leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, which was the common will of the Party and the Chinese people.
The development of Chinese women and children's undertakings is an important component of the Chinese path to modernization. The 20th CPC National Congress planned the development of women and children, the fostering of stronger family ties, values and traditions, and people's organizations work within the context of the cause of the Party and the country, thus providing fundamental and scientific guidance for conducting work related to women, children and family affairs in the new era on the new journey.
Huang spoke of UNICEF's contributions to the advancement of children's healthy growth and rights protection worldwide and the agency's friendly cooperation with the ACWF. Huang said the ACWF is willing to enhance cooperation with UNICEF and make concerted efforts to promote children and women's development globally, contributing to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Sande appreciated the fact the 20th CPC National Congress integrated the advancement of gender equality and the protection of women and children's rights and interests as important missions in the report to the congress. Sande also spoke of the achievements reached in Chinese women and children's development in the new era. She said UNICEF will deepen its cooperation with the ACWF, working together to advance children's healthy growth and women's development and striving to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring no child will be left behind.
Attendees included Lin Yi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, representatives of NWCCW, relevant ACWF departments, the China National Children's Center, and the China Children and Teenagers' Fund.
