Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), also Vice-Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, met Puan Maharani, Speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives, on May 29. Huang accompanied Maharani during her visit to China Women's University (CWU), in Beijing.
Huang said China and Indonesia have a profound traditional friendship. Under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Joko Widodo, relations between the countries have achieved stable and fast development, and have marched toward a new phase of building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future. Women in the two countries have maintained friendly communications for a long time, Huang added. She expressed ACWF's willingness to work with sisters from Indonesia to implement important consensus reached by the two heads of state, advocate traditional friendship, deepen exchanges and cooperation, promote deep and substantive progress in building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future, and jointly build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home for China and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).
Huang noted that Xi had attended the opening of the 13th National Women's Congress of China (held in October 2023), and had delivered an important speech during a talk with ACWF's new leadership. Xi's discourses on the work related to women and children as well as the work of women's federations, and Xi's discourses on the importance of family, family education and virtues have provided the guiding principles for Chinese women's development to achieve historic progress, Huang said.
Huang also outlined ACWF's major work; in particular, she mentioned the Spring Bud Project, which received the 2023 UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Prize for Girls' and Women's Education, and the Exchange and Training Base of Global Women's Development Cooperation, established at CWU. She added the ACWF is willing to work with sisters from all countries, including from Indonesia, to foster global women's development.
Maharani spoke of China's measures and achievements in advancing women's empowerment and safeguarding women's rights and interests. She said Indonesia is willing to enhance mutual learning with China, advance the development of relations between the two countries, and make new contributions to the promotion of progress in women's development and well-being of the people.
Huang accompanied Maharani during her visit to CWU's history hall. They watched international students attending a class and writing the Chinese characters meaning "pursuing common goals together," to express their wishes that women's friendly cooperation between China and Indonesia will be enhanced.
Lin Yi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, Djauhari Oratmangun, Indonesian Ambassador to China, and representatives from the National People's Congress of China, attended.
