At the invitation of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), a delegation of women diplomats and spouses of diplomatic envoys, from 14 countries and international organizations, including Zhang Bifen, Surinam's ambassador to China, visited Kunming City and Dali Prefecture, both in Southwest China's Yunnan Province, from October 28-31.
During their visit to Kunming, the delegation visited an ethnic minority village, an e-commerce company, Yunnan Provincial Museum, and a flower market. They learned about Yunnan's folk customs, history and culture. They were briefed on Yunnan's efforts in leveraging science and technology to promote women's development. They also gained an insight into the work of local women's federations, including work related to launching Caring Mothers activities, establishing women's federations in industries, and facilitating women's employment and business start-ups. In Dali, the delegation visited an environmental-protection-technology company, a park and several towns. They learned about work related to establishing women's federations in new types of economic and social organizations, and among groups in new forms of employment, the building of beautiful courtyards, the development of the intangible-cultural-heritage industry, and the promotion of ethnic unity and progress.
Delegation members spoke highly of their visit; in particular, many said they personally observed Yunnan's natural history, inheritance of ethnic culture, and innovative practices in promoting social and economic development, ecological protection, and ensuring sustainable development. They learned about women's roles in advancing high-quality economic development. They said they had gained a deeper understanding of Chinese modernization. Also, they said they will share what they learned in Yunnan with the people of their countries, and they will help promote mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of China and their respective countries.
