An online summit kicked off in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on December 10, 2021, to promote women's action for scientific and technological innovation in the municipality.

The summit, held by the Chongqing Women's Federation, Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and four other committees and organizations, aimed to gather women's strength to contribute to scientific and technological innovation and high-quality economic development.

An action plan for supporting women in colleges and universities to make scientific and technological innovations, the first of its kind in the country, was released during the event. Western (Chongqing) Science City, a scientific high-tech center in Chongqing, established its women's scientific and technological innovation alliance, gathering nearly 200 women from universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises in the zone.

Women experts, scholars and entrepreneurs in different sectors were also invited to share their new development concepts and expectations for future development at the summit. About 329,000 people watched the event online.

Wang Hongyang, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of the Chinese Women Scientists Association, attended the summit and delivered a speech.

Wang urged women scientific and technological workers to promote the spirit of scientists, strengthen their sense of responsibility in independent innovation, self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology, and hold up "half the sky" in regards to Chongqing's sci-tech and industry innovation.
