The Women's Federation of Tongjiang, a county-level city in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, has recently kicked off the fifth hand-weaving training session this year for local women. More than 200 women learned crochet techniques during the 15-day training session.
Instructors taught attendees both theoretical and practical crochet techniques. The training helped women find jobs at home, and thus, increase their incomes.
According to Yang Shuangyan, principal of Tongjiang Yuanmeng Vocational Training Center, local women can work at home and sell their hand-knitted products by themselves or with support from the center. Their monthly income can reach about 2,000 yuan (US $278). Additionally, by building a closer partnership with e-commerce enterprises, women can sell their products both online and offline.
You Chenglian, president of the federation, said the purpose of organizing such training is to build a handicrafts training platform for women, who stay at home to look after their young children and families. It will help them earn extra incomes and better fulfill their values both at home and in society, You added.
