To commemorate the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (an annual international campaign that kicks off on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until December 10, Human Rights Day), the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) held the Workshop on Strengthening Multi-sector Cooperation to Promote Women's Rights Protection in Beijing on December 5.
Lin Yi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, and Justine Coulson, UNFPA Representative to China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Workshop participants, both online and offline, included representatives of the Office of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, the Legal Department of the ACWF, the Women's Studies Institute of China, the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China, the Supreme People's Procuratorate of the People's Republic of China, the National Center for Women and Children's Health under the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Guangzhou Women's Federation, Hunan Yuntian Law Office, Cambodia's Ministry of Women's Affairs, Pakistan's Sindh Provincial Government, UNFPA Asia and the Pacific Regional Office, and UN Women's Office in Fiji.
The representatives had in-depth discussions on multi-sector cooperation to protect women's rights and interests, as well as experience and practical measures to eliminate violence against women. Chinese participants shared experience on the women's rights protection work mechanism, which features the leadership of the Party and government, multi-sector coordination and social participation. Participants emphasized that multi-sector cooperation is indispensable for the protection of women's rights and interests and the elimination of violence against women. They look forward to enhancing communications and cooperation, working together to promote gender equality and women's development worldwide and accelerate the fulfillment of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
