China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) and Fujian Women's Federation (FWF) jointly held women-centered public welfare activities in Quanzhou, a city in southeast China's Fujian Province, from March 5 to 7.
The activities aimed to provide disadvantaged women and women practitioners of intangible cultural heritage with necessary assistance through such projects as Genius Mom: Dream Workshop and financial aids for women with breast and cervical cancers as well as the distribution of donated goods.
Vice-President and Secretary-General of the CWDF Dong Kui said that the foundation has followed relevant decisions and arrangements of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), adhered to principles of serving women and their families wholeheartedly, delivered tangible benefits to needy women, and raised their sense of fulfillment, happiness and safety.
The Dream Workshop of Zanhuawei (a traditional floral headdress favored by women in Xunpu and other places in Quanzhou) has been the first Dream Workshop opened in Fujian. The CWDF will draw inspiration from its successful management of the Genius Mom project, support the development of relevant workshops through providing financial assistance and innovative product designs, organizing diverse exhibition and show, facilitating market access and other ways. It will also help women practitioners of Zanhuawei become employed at home, inject vitality to the rejuvenation of the ancient craft, and promote the innovative transformation and creative development of the intangible cultural heritage.
Organizers issued financial aids to 180 in-need women with breast and cervical cancers and distributed goods, raised from the Postal Parcel for Mothers project and charity-minded enterprises, among other disadvantaged women.
"It is very meaningful for me to attend the activity. I become fully inspired and impressed by the perseverance shown by women living with difficulties and their aspiration for a better life against all odds," said Deng Yaping, Chinese table tennis legend, at the inaugural ceremony. She added that their unyielding spirit is highly compatible with that of sports and firmed up her determination to take part in public welfare affairs and support the development of women.
The project team held an inspection tour to learn more about the implementation of the Dream Workshop initiative and its positive effects in the promotion of women's employment. Its members also held exchanges and discussions with local officials about existing problems and difficulties during the implementation of the project.
In the years ahead, the CWDF will continuously leverage its strengths and functions to unite people from all social sectors, build precise and long-term assistance mechanisms with tangible results, and do its utmost to help disadvantaged women as well as their families.
