A primary school girl, who goes by the pseudonym Yimeng, from Qujing City, in southwest China's Yunnan Province, was one of the beneficiaries of the 2023 Mother's Smile Action. China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) launched the project to provide medical diagnosis and treatment to teenage patients with cleft lip and palate.
During a follow-up visit, the little girl's father said she had undergone a sound recovery from the disease and become more active and their family atmosphere has become more cheerful. Meanwhile, her head teacher echoed that she has transformed into an outgoing one and she is able to interact with classmates in a confident manner.
The CWDF organized a delegation of experts in the field of cleft lip and palate treatment to conduct free medical screenings and perform surgical operations for eligible children like Yimeng from in-need families in Qujing from March 13 to 16.
The latest medical tour received tremendous support from various sides. Yunnan Women's Federation and Yunnan Women and Children's Development Foundation coordinated women's federations at lower levels across the province to collect necessary information of local kids with cleft lip and palate within one week and arrange them to undergo medical screenings in designated hospitals. Qujing Health Commission and Qujing Maternal and Child Healthcare Hospital made plans for all procedures of the activity. Zhuhai Wanda Commercial Management Group and the public welfare platform of ByteDance leveraged their unique strength and pooled fund into the Mother's Smile Action.
A group of volunteers from Zhuhai Wanda Commercial Management Group visited children with cleft lip and palate and provided their families with caring services. All participants believed that the action can not only help relevant children regain smile but also enable them to grow up healthily and drive social harmony as well as progress.
In the upcoming days, the team of medical experts will work together with their counterpart from Qujing Maternal and Child Healthcare Hospital to carry out surgical operations for target children, bringing self-confidence and smile back to them.
