The National March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetters and Collectives awards were launched by the All-China Women's Federation in 1960. The awards recognize exemplary workers or collectives who have made extraordinary achievements in their work.

At the same time, a large-scale women's emancipation movement was launched, resulting in the historic liberation of Chinese women which won worldwide attention.
September 15 saw the opening in Rome, Italy, of the Chinese Women's Culture Week and the Sino-Italian Women's Forum, as part of the Chinese Culture Year in Italy. This is the first-ever Sino-Italian women's exchange event jointly hosted by the All-China Women's Federation and the Italian Ministry for Equal Opportunities.
