Members of the JinGuo Committee in the United States, led by its President Zhang Sujiu, the youngest daughter of Zhang Zhizhong (1890-1969), a famous general, have raised funds and purchased protective equipment worth nearly 30,000 yuan (US $4,307), to support China's fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak, originated in Wuhan City, Central China's Hubei Province.
The committee has donated the first batch of protective equipment, including 1,000 medical masks and 4,000 pairs of medical gloves, to the All-China Women's Federation. The committee members are trying to seek for more urgently needed materials, which will be sent to China in batches.
The evolving situation of the outbreak pulls at the heartstrings of Chinese and overseas Chinese worldwide, who have been active in helping in the battle against the epidemic.
Zhang, nearly 90, is an influential overseas Chinese leader in the Western United States. She has guided the committee members to rush around to purchase and transport medical supplies since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Zhang even helped carry the materials herself.
The JinGuo Committee is a Chinese women's organization in the Los Angeles area in the US.
