Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), women medical workers in hospitals and community health service stations have stuck to their posts and performed their duties on the front line of the fight against the virus.

Some of the women medical teams have been honored as role model teams by local women's federations in Wuhan for their significant contributions to the city's health service and its people. They have become heroines saving people's lives and guarding people's health.

Emergency Nurses Concentrate on Serving Patients

The Emergency Department of the Central Hospital of Wuhan has more than 200 women medical workers who have been working for more than 40 days in a fever clinic, observation wards and rescue rooms to ensure patients' safety.

A fever clinic is a dangerous place where a number of suspected patients are gathered. However, all the nurses stick to their posts and brave the fight against the virus.

The nurses at the emergency department need to wear protective clothing that is very inconvenient to put on and take off, so they don't drink water during work time to avoid going to the toilet. They just want to save more time to serve more patients.

"We believe that as long as we are united and concentrate our efforts on the fight against the epidemic, we will finally win," said Ai Fen, Director of the Emergency Department.

Community Medical Workers Guard People's Health

As the guardians of the residents' health at the community level, women medical workers of the health service station of Donghu Community bravely work on the front line of the fight against the epidemic.

Knowing that the neighborhood in Liyuan Sub-district where the station was located was short of protective equipment, the health service station of Donghu Community donated more than 2,000 masks, 50 pieces of protective clothing, 40 goggles, 40 infrared thermometers and 11 bags of disinfection tablets to the neighborhood for its COVID-19 prevention and control work.

"Although we have a lot of work to do and are under tremendous pressure, we must stick to our posts and play our role in the fight against the epidemic since we are community medical workers," said Chen Shufen, head of the station.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, women medical workers of the Community Healthcare Center of Liujiaoting Sub-District in Qiaokou District have worked from day to night carrying out nucleic acid detection for patients, diagnosing fever patients, instructing patients to take medicine, monitoring their body temperatures, disinfecting highly suspected patients' houses and transferring highly suspected patients and severely ill patients to the quarantine sites and hospitals.

They also instruct mild patients to take medicine and help to relieve their anxiety.

"The patients trust us and we need to be responsible for each of them. If we do more for them, they will recover more quickly," said nurse Kong Rong.
