The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held a meeting on April 20 to study and discuss the measures to implement the spirit of the leadership meeting on regular COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control measures and economic work held by the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on April 17.
Shen Yueyue, President of the ACWF, delivered a speech at the meeting.
Shen stressed that women's federations should further study and implement the important speeches delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping.
Women's federations at all levels were urged to pinpoint the focus of work amid epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, and find the best way to serve women and the overall interests in a bid to maintain economic development and social stability, win the decisive victory in the battle against poverty, and clinch a complete victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
Shen noted that the women's federations should further take concrete, meticulous and effective measures in regular epidemic prevention and control work, and actively guide women to lead their family members to continue taking necessary preventive measures.
Enhanced efforts should be made to provide psychological counseling and family education services and to assist community workers to consolidate the community-based work for epidemic prevention and control, Shen said.
The women's federations were also urged to unite and mobilize women to contribute to realizing the goal of clinching a complete victory in the fight against poverty, give full play to the associations of women entrepreneurs, the women's chambers of the federations of industry and commerce and other group members of the women's federations and help them solve difficulties in the resumption of work and production, and motivate more women entrepreneurs to resume work and production and achieve target outputs as soon as possible.
Noting that more concentrated efforts should be made in poverty alleviation in areas of deep poverty, Shen said the women's federations should devote time and energy to coordinating and organizing local people to go out for work and boosting sales of local products. They should also help impoverished women to expand channels of increasing their income and gain flexible employment.
Continuous efforts should be made to support female college students with favorable employment policies, help set up job-hunting platforms and create more employment channels for them, and to encourage them to get jobs or start businesses in new trades and businesses.
Shen urged the women's federations at all levels to strengthen the work of guiding, serving and contacting women for better maintaining social stability, and of informing them of the policies and decisions made by the CPC Central Committee and the stories of women models fighting against poverty in a bid to enhance their confidence in overcoming difficulties.
She stressed that women's federations should care more about disadvantaged women and children, learn about the conditions of the women who still live below the poverty line and the women who have difficulties in life caused by the epidemic so as to better solve their problems. Women's federations should also perform well in protection of women and children's rights and interests in accordance with the law.
Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presided over the meeting.
