ByWang Yanfang May 19, 2015

The China Women's University (CWU) released on April 23 a report on the reading of printed books stored in its library, to mark the 20th World Book and Copyright Day.

The report reveals and analyzes the status quo of reading at the CWU in 2014 and serves as an effective measure in promoting learning and building school culture.

CWU Vice-President Liu Meng attended the ceremony for the release of the report. She said that by reading the report, one can learn about what the students and teachers at the university read and what the school needs to do to improve its landscape for reading.

She emphasized the importance of reading and encouraged teachers to set good examples for students so that they may cultivate good reading habits.

At the ceremony, 30 readers won the "Star Reader" award. Liu expressed her hope that they could serve as models for inspiring more people to read.

Zheng Lei, deputy Party secretary of the Finance Department, made a speech on behalf of the "Star Reader" recipients. He shared his insights on reading and its impact on his work and life.

The library has carried out a series of reading initiatives with the theme of "Walking with Classics, Reading for Life." These initiatives include setting up book clubs, launching plans for cultivating reading habits and carrying out a survey on reader satisfaction. The library also collaborated with the Student Union and the Publicity Department to hold an essay competition, which played a positive role in fuelling student interest in reading and in building a campus of avid readers.

Zhao Baozhen, vice director of the library, hosted the ceremony.
