A group of 54 student volunteers from China Women's University (CWU) celebrated the completion of their official services at the "Happy Involvement in Charity, Happy Life Forever" charity event, on the evening of June 3.

Gu Xiulian, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress; Sun Longchun, the former vice-minister of health; and Zhang Jingyuan, former secretary-general of the State Council all attended the event.

Sponsored by the China Population Welfare Foundation (CPWF) and hosted by its local branch, the "Happy Involvement in Charity, Happy Life Forever" event attracted many celebrities from the worlds of show business and sport. Through a charity auction, a total of 1.7 million yuan (U.S. $ 274,000), along with supplies and materials worth 400,000 yuan (U.S. $ 64,500) were raised for orphans, the elderly and the disabled, especially those who have no families or relatives to rely on.

During the charity event, the CWU students worked hard with great care to provide considerate service for guests and attendees and to ensure the smooth running of the event, which was highly appreciated by the organizers.

All the students belonged to CWU's voluntary service team, where they promised to uphold the motto of "Doing whatever I can to contribute to society" through their daily deeds and routine. In turn, the students have experienced high praise and devotion from people of various walks of life who work for the public good, and have been inspired to play their part in charity activities with great passion. Moreover, they vowed to carry forward the spirit of their voluntary service and make real efforts in serving the people, society and the nation throughout the course of their future duties.
