The Seminar on Social Management Capacity Building for Female Officials From Developing Countries Held in CWU

On September 9, the opening ceremony of the 2015 Seminar for Constructing Female Officials' Social Management Abilities from Developing Countries was held in China Women's University (CWU).

Huang Shu, Director of the Americas and Oceania Affairs Division of the All-China Women's Federation International Liaison Department; and CWU President Liu Liqun, both delivered opening speeches. CWU Vice-President Liu Meng presided over the ceremony. Trainees and teachers from related departments attended the event.

On behalf of the liaison department, Huang Shu expressed her heartfelt congratulations, and warmly welcomed all the trainees. She said that "the aim of the seminar is to strengthen women's communications between China and other developing countries. Women can share their achievements and experience promoting gender equality, women's participation in social management, women's empowerment in economy and politics, promoting democratic legal construction, and other fields. Exchanges and cooperation between China and other developing countries help to promote the progress of gender equality worldwide," she added.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the 1995 World Conference on Women in Beijing, the seminar was endowed with special significance. Women's participation in social management not only meets the needs of women's development, it also meet the needs of social progress, Huang added. She hoped all the trainees could improve their management abilities, learn more about China, and join in efforts to promote social development and gender equality.

Liu warmly welcomed 40 trainees from 17 countries on behalf of CWU's teachers and students, and expressed her heartfelt thanks to ACWF and related departments. She said, "as a university affiliated to ACWF, CWU has always received attention from the government and society in recent years. We have many advantageous characteristic subjects in women's leadership, women's higher education, human resources development, preschool education, and other fields."

CWU is committed to servicing women's development and social economic development, and strives to develop full-time graduate students, undergraduates and higher vocational students. It is also an important part of its work to develop female officials. Liu hoped that trainees could share each others' cultural knowledge, management experience and practical results to benefit both teaching and learning. She also hoped that the trainees could act as a bridge to promote both cooperation and friendship through mutual efforts.

Ms. Hlope, an officer from the South African President's Office, delivered a speech on behalf of all the trainees. She thanked the Chinese government for holding the seminar, and CWU's contribution in training works. She promised to cherish this opportunity, share and obtain knowledge after the training session. 

The 15 day seminar will focus on Chinese actual conditions, national mechanisms and gender equality, Chinese women's participation in social development, women's career development, children's education and development. In addition, trainees will visit Zhejiang Province, eastern China, and study the situation of Chinese women's participation in social management, women's entrepreneurship and employment, and new rural construction. They will also participate in the International Forum for the Two Generations of Feminists, which will be held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the World Conference on Women.
