Li Mingshun Attends First Gender Equality Symposium

Organizers held the third high-level meeting on cultural exchange in Brussels, capital of Belgium to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the European Union (EU) and China, in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Forth World Conference on Women.

Meng Xiaosi, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of All-China Women's Federation(ACWF), along with a delegation of Chinese women, attended the meeting. 

Li Mingshun, the Chairperson of China Women's University(CWU) Council, also attended the meeting and relevant activities.

The meeting themed "Beijing+20, Looking Backward and Forward" was co-sponsored by ACWF and Europe Women's Lobbying Group. During the meeting, officials, scholars, social activists, prominent women entrepreneurs, and officials and observers from the European Commission focused their discussion on the three topics of women's economic empowerment, with particular regard for the impact of internet economy on women, the prevention of violence against women, and the work-family balance.

Jiang Xiuhua, assistant director of Women's Studies Institute of China; Liu Ping, general editor of Marriage and Family Magazine; and Li delivered speeches at the meeting. Li introduced several highlights in China's ongoing anti-domestic violence legislation. He also sincerely invited EU experts to login into the website and put forward valuable opinions and suggestions. These experts showed great interest and agreed to promote bilateral cooperation and exchange.

During the activity, the delegation visited and held talks with Cita Gourmet, president of Women's Organization of European Socialist Parties. They also visited Belgium resource center for women's rights, and participated in the welcome party held by the Belgium Women's Federation. 

It is the first time in which a cultural communication between the EU and China have involved women's affairs. Success of the meeting may create new opportunities for women of both countries and will lay a solid foundation for more pragmatic communication in the future.
