CWU Hosts Essay-writing Awards Ceremony to Encourage Reading
In order to get more people reading "classics" and spread positive energy, the Propaganda Department of China Women's University (CWU), along with the university's library, called on all faculty and students to send in essays about reading women-focused books, to further highlight the theme of the times on scholarly society.
With the support of those solicited, the essay collection event was wrapped up successfully by organizers. According to the principle of abiding by academic morality and awarding the most outstanding works, a total of 24 students were given prizes at the main ceremony on December 15.
The awards are divided into one top prize, five runners-up, seven recipients for third place and 11 prizes for "outstanding".
Curator Liang Kelong presided over the ceremony and announced the list of winners.
Zhang Xiangcun, director of Department of Publicity, concluded that the essays submitted, taking "classics", "women", and "gender" as subjects, aimed to explore and research gender issues. She said that the essays also reflected the authors' thinking about society, life, gender and emotions. Zhang expected to further improve academic accomplishment, reading ability and a sense of integrity through the event.
The organizers said that they will constantly sum up their experiences and seek to improve the measures to advocate more people to participate in reading. In the meantime, they will take the reading competition as a systematic project to carry out again in the future, and look to make it a permanent event.
