China Women's University (CWU) held the second session of its faculty conference, the 5th Plenary Meeting of the Trade Union Representative Assembly, on March 22.

Li Mingshun, chairperson of CWU Council; CWU President Liu Liqun; Vice-President Song Shengju, Vice-President Liu Meng and Vice-President Wang Lian; and, other representatives, about 150 in total, attended the conference. Chairperson Li Mingshun presided over the event.

Sun Xiaomei, professor of the Department of Women's Studies, who also serves as deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) made a report on the spirit of the recent "Two Sessions", annual China's legislative and advisory meetings. Sun introduced China's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), and also recounted stories of how NPC deputies speak for the nation's people.

At the conference, President Liu Liqun delivered a work report on "Deepening the Comprehensive Reform to Promote the CWU's Development to a New Step". The speech was divided into eights parts that related to the overall development for the CWU in 2015, which included: implementing the Party and the national important decisions and deployments, and strengthening the top-level design so as to make clearer development ideas; comprehensively deepening the education and teaching reform to improve the quality of talents cultivation; promoting the strength of scientific research by improving relevant services; strengthening the construction of faculty teams with the opportunity of the CWU's eighth round of entire personnel employment; persisting in servicing the economic and social development and women's development so as to further expand the social service function; enhancing international cooperation and communications with a view to increasing the international influences; strengthening scientific management and perfecting conditions for security, so as to improve the infrastructure and public services continuously; and, intensifying the construction of clean government buildings.

In addition, Liu also spoke about future developments and put forward demands for CWU in 2016 in the report, which included: full implementation of manning quota and scientific planning of the future development for CWU in the period of the 13th Five-Year Plan; full implementation of undergraduate teaching evaluation and pilot project evaluation for the social work master's degree; full implementation of the CWU comprehensive reform scheme to promote scientific development; full implementation of the eighth entire personnel employment to lay a solid foundation for the talents team; improving the conditions to optimize the education environment; and comprehensively strengthening the Party's construction.

Li Mingshun concluded that CWU will face a series of important developments in 2016, which require the faculty to establish an overall awareness, pool the wisdom and efforts of everyone and increase the consensus so as to promote the CWU going forward.

The CWU trade union representatives discussed the "CWU Work Report", the "CWU Financial Work Report",the "CWU Trade Union Work Report", and the "CWU Trade Union Financial Work Report" at the plenary meeting. They affirmed the reform achievements in education, and also proposed some operational measures and suggestions for the university's development.

The faculty conference of the CWU is a democratic platform to promote the university's development and voice for the interests of the faculty, which provides valuable sources for the construction of the school, as well as an inexhaustible driving force to promote the development of the cause of women's higher education.
