CWU Holds 12th Sports Meeting

China Women's University (CWU) held its 12th track and field sports meeting on April 22, under the theme of "Green Sports, Sunshine Training". All the teachers and students participated in the event.

Li Mingshun, Chairperson of the CWU Council; Liu Liqun, CWU president; and, CWU vice-presidents Song Shengju, Liu Meng, Wang Jingxia and Wang Lian attended the meeting.

On behalf of the Party and administrative leaders, Liu Liqun made an opening speech extending her heartfelt greetings to the participants. She emphasized that physical education is an important part of carrying out the educational policy of the Party and training excellent talents in full-scale development. It is also an essential component in constructing a spiritual civilization and campus culture, she commented.

President Liu said that CWU has hosted 59 sports activities, and won 16 first prizes and six second prizes in the national university students' campaigns and Beijing municipal competitions in 2015. The event was a full demonstration of the spirit and ideal of the sports, and also an important reflection of the Party's educational policy. She hoped that all the teachers and students could continue to develop collective and combatant spirits, and accomplish new missions in the future.

Having enjoyed the performances of aerobics, tea-making and yoga, the participants participated in some 40 physical activities, including: 100-meters, 200-meters, long-distance running, high jump, long jump, and shot put. Teachers and students realized the warmth of collective, the power of cooperation, and the joy of movement.

After intense competition, the North Campus, the School of Management, the Social Work Department, the School of Children Development and Education, the Higher Vocational Education College and the Computer Science Department were named the top six units. The Computer Science Department, the Social Work Department, the Law School, Women's Studies Department, the School of Management, and the North Campus made the top six highest scores. The Higher Vocational Education College, Financial Department, the Social Work Department, Women's Studies Department, and the School of Management got the sports morality award. The School of Management got the Outstanding Contribution Award. School leaders issued certificates and awarded trophies to the winners.

Li congratulated the outstanding individuals and units, and expressed thanks to all the athletes, judges, and participants. He pointed out that the teaching staff have organized rich and colorful activities in recent year. Students' achievements are increasing year by year. The sports meeting demonstrated teachers' and students' spirit and skills. He hoped that all the participants could improve their fitness, actively engaged in constructing CWU into the best women's university, and contribute to the university's evaluation work.

Organizers integrated "going green", humanitarianism, and equality into the whole event, and fully embodied CWU's healthy idea of physical education. CWU will continue to carry out the sports spirit, hold some green activities, and strive to achieve the combination of physical exercise and green consciousness, athletic performance and cultural accomplishment, and, sports development and personality cultivation, organizers said.
