CWU Holds a Seminar for Volunteers Serving in Hotan
China Women's University (CWU) hosted a seminar on April 19 for members of the voluntary association serving in Hotan Prefecture, northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
Zou Yao, graduate from the School of Management in CWU and a member of the voluntary association; Liu Wei, vice-president of the Zhejiang Middle School at Hotan Prefecture, Wang Lu, volunteer from the Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development at Karakax County; Li Jiabin, volunteer teaching at Hotan Prefecture; Cheng Yuanyuan, volunteer teacher from No.1 primary school at Hotan Prefecture; Chen Guang, assistant chief executive of the Beijing Volunteer Service Guidance Center (BVSGC); and, students from different departments and schools participated in the event.
Organizers displayed pictures of the construction and development of Xinjiang Province, and a video which showed the volunteers' learning and living conditions. Five outstanding volunteers vividly related their experiences, and shared their growth process in serving the west of the country.
Volunteers' simple words and persistent belief deeply moved all the participants, and won prolonged applause. After the speech, members of the voluntary association communicated with students interested in the voluntary work, and outlined several topics that attracted the juniors' attention, including the enrollment process, work allocation, work content, living condition, and daily activities.
Since 2013, a total of 97 CWU graduates have participated in the plan of university students working in the west of China, including 26 volunteers, three civil servants, and five cadres who provided aid for Xinjiang. They combined their own fate with that of the nation, and contributed their wisdom and strength to the economic and social development of Xinjiang Province.
