Marxist Theory Research Center Organizes 2nd Academic Salon
China Women's University (CWU) Research Center of Marxist Theory invited Norman Levine, a famous U.S. professor in Marxism studies, to give an academic lecture on "Women's Liberation in Marx and Engels", on March 22.
Wang Huan, director of the center, presided over the event, and, teachers from CWU Scientific Research Office and Ideological and Political Department attended and took part.
Prof. Levine introduced the background and origin of women's liberation in Marx and Engels' writings, and outlined their thoughts. Compared with women's liberation issues in the 1840s, Levine introduced several women's liberation activities in contemporary Europe and the U.S.
Levine also discussed further topics including gender equality
Levine has taught history at DePauw University, University of Maryland, the American Graduate School of International Management, and New York University, and was an executive director at the Phoenix Research Institute of International Policy.
In recent years, Levine has been invited by Renmin University of China, Peking University, Central Compilation and Translation Bureau, and other institutes to develop academic exchanges. His latest work Divergent Paths: Hegel in Marxism and Engelsism was published in 2009 by Beijing Normal University Publishing Group.
