Thai Women's Delegation Visits CWU
Vice-president of the National Council of Women of Thailand (NCWT), director of the NCWT's Foreign Affairs Office, and some other delegates visited China Women's University (CWU) on May 5. CWU vice-president Liu Meng warmly received the visitors, and hosted a seminar.
Directors from the CWU International Cooperation Direction, and Continuing Education School participated in the event.
Liu introduced CWU's history, mission, and academic characteristics, CWU's scientific research in promoting gender equality and children's and women's development, and CWU's efforts in foreign aid projects, which were sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce.
Liu welcomed the NCWT's participation in CWU's maiden enrollment project of social work postgraduates, and hoped that the visit could further promote CWU's cooperation with colleges, social organizations, and the government of Thailand concerning women and academic exchange.
NCWT vice-president introduced its sectors, members, and scope of work, and, inquired about some specifics concerning the CWU's project for social work postgraduates. Director of the NCWT's Foreign Affairs Office and vice-president of the North Bangkok University (NBU) outlined NBU's basic situation and international cooperation projects.
The two sides also exchanged opinions towards an exchange program, short-term training, and the establishment of a Confucius Institute in Thailand. They reached broad consensus and signed a cooperation framework agreement.
The NCWT was founded in 1956. As the largest women's organization in Thailand, it aims to develop welfare services for women and children, assist in practicing family planning, and strive to improve women's social status and living conditions.
The NBU, a private comprehensive university, was established in 2001. It has five schools with 19 faculties for undergraduates, five for postgraduates, and two for doctoral students.
