CWU Art School Awarded at China Graduate Fashion Week
The 2016 China Graduate Fashion Week wrapped up on May 20. Nearly 900 graduates from 36 universities at home and abroad participated in the event. The Art School of China Women's University (CWU) achieved unanimous acclaim, and won an award for its talent cultivation achievement.
The graduates show of CWU's Art School was held at Beijing 751D-Park on May 16. Li Dangqi, president of the China Fashion Association (CFA); Zhang Qinghui, vice-president of the CFA; some well-known designers and relevant companies' representatives attended the event. CWU vice-president Wang Lian was present on behalf of the school leaders.
With the theme of "Move with Body", CWU's teachers and students worked together to balance the design forms and functions, and meet the demands of body movement from the perspective of three-dimensional space. The designers made the best of every line and detail, tried to adjust the apparel materials to people's change in temperature, and added bright colors to increase visual appeal.
In line with the CWU's special curriculum on sportswear design, the organizers invited Jane McCann, a famous sports fashion designer from the UK, to join the instruction team.
The event showcased some 76 works designed by 25 graduates, featuring riding, skiing, hip-hop, yoga, tennis, outdoor exercise, and, scientific investigation and exploration.
Based on the costume design theory and professional skill, students analyzed their research, and thought about the relationship between movement and comfort. The fabric and details, which add to a suit's attractiveness, and even the fit should be of secondary concern, since it is the silhouette that actually determines the longevity of the garment, department members said. The participants took these issues into consideration, and designers used functional materials, and attempted to combine different factors with innovation in their works.
The displays showed CWU's orientation of talent cultivation, and highlighted the features of CWU's Art School. Upholding the spirit for developing applied innovative designers, the Art School has formed characteristic curriculum system, and paid special attention to training students' design innovation and practical ability. The exhibition presented CWU students' vigor and social responsibility, demonstrated their artistic feelings and learning outcomes, and also inspected CWU's comprehensive practical level and the quality of talent cultivation.
