CWU Delegates Visit Dalian Maritime Uni

Liu Liqun, president of the China Women's University (CWU) and CWU vice-president Wang Lian led some 5 teachers from different functional departments to visit the Dalian Maritime University (DMU) on June 24, in order to study and learn about the institution's experience in evaluation work.

DMU vice-president Pan Xinxiang warmly welcomed the delegation and presided over a seminar. Pan briefly introduced DMU's history, school-running features, and the basic situation of its talent cultivation, and, shared his opinions on the issue.

DMU vice-president Liu Zhengjiang made a speech at the seminar, stating that the true meaning of evaluation work is so that teachers' concepts can change and they can share the struggle for talent cultivation.

Wu Guitao, director of the DMU's Quality Management Department and the Teaching Affair Office, laid out the specifics of the evaluation work, including the phases of preparation, evaluation on the colleges and departments, writing requirements for the self-evaluation report, supporting materials collection, filling out the university's data base, and the application of the ISO 9000 quality management systems standards in teaching for undergraduate education. 

In accordance with their own experiences, the relevant participants outlined DMU's work in arranging the experts' and guests' visits and accommodation, and preparing the evaluation materials. 

The two sides further discussed the institutional construction, quality guarantee system of teaching, school-running orientation, teaching archives administration, and the development of schools and departments.

The delegation also visited the DMU's history exhibition room, Student Career Center, state key "laboratory of voyage" simulator, and a system for teaching practice.

Liu sincerely thanked the hosts for their enthusiasm, and pointed out that the visit had made them realize the central role of talent cultivation, the importance of connotation construction and teaching quality improvement. Liu said that evaluation work served to apply both pressure and impetus. 

The DMU's advanced school philosophy, distinguished characteristics, outstanding school-running achievements, quality management system for undergraduate education, students' collective sense of honor, and its quasi-military-style regime deeply impressed the visitors. CWU would learn from the DMU's successful experience, strive to promote evaluation work, and improve the quality of talent-cultivation according to the university's actual situation, Liu added.

Those in attendance also included Dong Guosong, director of the DMU's Student Affairs Office; Shi Lihong, director of the Student Career Center; Wang Yibo, deputy director of the DMU's Administrative Office; Zhao Junhao, assistant director of the DMU's Teaching Affairs Office, and teachers from the CWU's Quality Supervision Office, Teaching Affairs Office, the School of Culture Communication, and the Finance Department.
