CWU Opens 6th Int'l Civil Servants Capacity Building Training Program
China Women's University (CWU) held an opening ceremony for the 6th International Servants Capacity Building Training Program on July 14. Some 100 trainees from 54 universities and organizations attended the event.
The training session was co-organized by the China branch of the UN Association (UNA); the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the PRC; and, the CWU.
Meng Xiaosi, Vice-President and member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), gave a keynote speech at the conference, which was presided over by Zhang Dan, vice-president of UNA China.
Meng pointed out that economic globalization is accelerating, the international organizations are playing important roles in promoting global development and international governance. Meng emphasized that women have made positive contribution in promoting social development and peace.
As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and the largest developing country in the world, China shoulders important responsibilities, and has gained more international influence. The 2015 Global Women's Summit highlighted the great significance of gender equality and women's empowerment, Meng added.
The training course aimed to enhance women's involvement in international organizations, build female civil servants' capacity, and, promote gender equality and women's development across the world, Meng noted. She hoped that the participants could study hard, pay more attention to the national and international affairs, and contribute further to the social and economic development of China, and the cause of human progress.
Lu Shumin, president of UNA China, reviewed the previous training projects, and pointed out that President Xi Jinping's speeches at the UN Summit opened a new chapter of China on multilateral diplomacy, and bestow the seminar with special meaning.
The event was designed to cultivate officials' capacity and develop the reserve of talents for high-level administrative posts. With the international influence of officials, China will gain more say in major international affairs, and has more chance in formulating international rules as a global power, Lu said.
Focused on the issues of international organizations, the organizers added a couple of innovations, arranging several visits and discussions. Lu hoped that trainees could cherish the learning opportunity, and, strive to gain knowledge and improve their professional skills.
CWU president Liu Liqun warmly welcomed the leaders, guests, and trainees from home and abroad. She expressed her view that CWU has become the main bridge of women's communication between China and the international organizations, and the major base for nurturing students' global awareness.
Liu sincerely hoped that the attendees could learn more about the international rules and diplomatic theories, strengthen self-construction, and act as a stable force in China's diplomatic undertakings.
Ma Hezu, deputy director of the MOHRSS's International Cooperation Department; Jiang Qin, diplomatic counselor from the Department of International Organizations and Conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and, Zhang Haibin, director of the Research Center of International Organizations at Peking University attended the event and delivered speeches.
During the 12 day schedule, current and former officials from different international organizations and several ministries will give 14 lectures on the basic situation of the UN, international systems operation, and personnel arrangement, as well as the basic condition of China in participating in multilateral diplomacy. The sponsors will also arrange several visits to some UN agencies in China and the Peace-Keeping Center of the Ministry of National Defense.
