Delegates from CWU's North Campus Visit Waste Disposal Center

 July 1, 2016

To thoroughly apply an innovative, well-coordinated, eco-friendly, and open outlook on development shared by all and respond positively to the call of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Youth League Committee, the North Campus of China Women's University (CWU) organized a special activity at the Beijing Chaoyang Circular Economy Industrial Park (BCCEIP) on June 23.

The event aimed to spread the concept of environmental protection among female students, and improve their awareness of green ecology and sustainable development. CWU vice-president Song Shengju, and part of the teaching staff and students from the North Campus, participated in the visit.

The participants visited the Gaoantun waste incineration power plant, landfill, and recycling center for kitchen waste, studying the overall design process of electricity generation, the production process and technologies of landfill gases, and the disposal system of landfill leachate and kitchen waste.

The visit is one of the North Campus's Five-One series in advocating environmental protection, including a theme on publicity, a special symposium, an eco-friendly visit, an activity for adopting green plants, and an environmental essay competition.

Teachers and students realized the importance of environmental education after their field inspections. The visit stimulated participants' awareness of environmental protection, enhanced female students' crisis awareness on environmental pollution, and highlighted the significance of environmental protection, organizers said.

The students agreed that they would start with themselves, develop the habit of sorting rubbish, set up the correct concept of environmental protection, and devote themselves to protecting the environment. They are ready for the upcoming final exam, and will do their best to pass the exam, students added.

As one of the first batch of the pilot circular economy industrial parks and the largest recycling center for kitchen waste in China, the Chaoyang industrial park is located in Jinzhan Village, Chaoyang District in Beijing.
