Delegates from European Commission Visit CWU

Delegates from the European Commission (EC) visited China Women's University (CWU) on June 20. Li Mingshun, Chairperson of the CWU Council, received the visitors, and presided over a seminar.

Directors from the CWU's International Cooperation Department, International Education College, and Women Studies Faculty participated in the event.

Li warmly welcomed the visitors, and introduced CWU's development history, school-running characteristics, undergraduate curriculum, objective of talent cultivation, and its basic situation of international exchange. Tiina Astola, Director-General of the EC's Department of Justice, Consumer, and Gender Equality, laid out the achievements of the European Union in promoting gender equality. 

Around the power of Law in promoting gender equality, the two sides discussed women's participation in the labor market, the legal merit of the household work, the prevention and suppression of domestic violence, and the issues of gender equality in inheritance law.

Li agreed with Astola on her suggestions and made a positive response. Li said that the CWU is committed to promoting the international communication among women, and will continue to develop institutionalized exchange programs in the future. 

The visit was arranged by the Legislative Office of the State Council. The participants also included Joelle Hivonnet, an official from the EU Liaison Office, and, Albert Grech, a representative from the EU delegation in Beijing.
