CWU's Art School Holds Seminar on Talent Cultivation

 July 5, 2016

The Art School of China Women's University (CWU) held a seminar on its latest talent cultivation plan on June 22. CWU vice-president Wang Lian, deputy director of the Quality Supervision Office, and all the teachers from the Art School participated in the event, which was presided over by Wang Lu, dean of the Art School.

The organizers also invited experts to form a panel, including Guo Qiang, a professor from the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology; Li Wei and Zhang Geming, professors from the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University; and, Zhou Zishu, originator of the Sweet Potato Community, which provides shared studio and work spaces.

The experts put forward some constructive suggestions on curriculum, talent cultivation, discipline construction, and specialty orientation on the basis of listening to the basic framework and innovations of CWU's talent cultivation plan.

The experts agreed that the Art School should highlight its distinguished characteristics, refine its curriculum, improve the teaching standard, and consistently uphold the "3-W" design and education concept, that is, "Of Women, By Women, and For Women".

The Fashion Design and Engineering major, an established force in the clothing design industry, is expected to be a potential leader with its special curriculum on sportswear design. The Environmental Design and Visual Communication Design major has gradually developed a unique and complete curriculum system. The reform of the Art School on its basic curriculum and design literacy course is incredibly refreshing, experts added.

In addition, the experts and participants discussed how to balance the teaching theory and practice, and come up with a plan that the Art School could convert some instrumental and technological courses into electives.

Wang Lian sincerely thanked the experts for their suggestions, and pointed out that the talent cultivation plan of the Art School is scientific and systematic. She hoped that teachers concerned could instill the spirit of innovation into daily teaching, and strive to achieve greater success.
