CWU Teachers Attend National Household Service Competition
A total of 93 domestic workers competed in the finals of the National Household Service Contest, held from August 26-27 in the city of Jinan, east China's Shandong Province.
The contest was set up by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. It was jointly organized with the help of Shandong Women's Federation, the provincial department of Human Resources and Social Security, and the local Jinan municipal government.
Cui Yu, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Li Mingshun, Chairperson of the Council of China Women's University (CWU), also gave remarks at the gathering.
On an inspection tour of Jinan in November 2013, President Xi Jinping stated that housekeeping services is a promising industry. Meanwhile, he stressed that housekeepers should adhere to principles of integrity whilst improving their professional standards, further benefiting both themselves and their customers.
Sun Jianbei, dean of the CWU's Higher Vocational College (HVC), led 14 teachers to participate in the event, and acted as judge. In addition, some 40 college professors, experts, elite trainers, and senior editors have started out as test-designers since March.
Women's federations at various levels have contributed continuous efforts in pushing for a professionalized and specialized housekeeping industry across the nation, said Cui.
The training course is an effective measure in leading women to improve their professional skills whilst promoting local employment. Such schemes have become one of the most significant efforts that women's federations have organized to serve women and their families, Cui added.
CWU's HVC set up the domestic services specialty in 2011 and have fostered over 160 professional graduates since then. The aging society and second-child policy will accelerate the development of the household service industry in the future. The CWU will take this opportunity to vigorously develop the household services profession, and cultivate more qualified personnel for society, CWU's teachers said.
