CWU Holds Seminar on Gender and Public Policy
The Women Studies Faculty of China Women's University (CWU) and the China Women's Development Research Center co-organized a seminar on gender and public policy on October 15.
Over 100 experts and scholars from domestic and international higher institutes and scientific research institutions attended the conference and exchanged opinions on the development of the women studies specialty, as well as talent cultivation strategies.
CWU president Liu Liqun reviewed the development history of CWU's Women Studies Faculty and outlined CWU's achievements in promoting women's progress and gender equality in China.
Liu also said that the university will cultivate more professionals in women studies, open up broader prosperity for scientific research and develop itself into a top-rank women's university worldwide.
Attendees included Zhang Li, deputy director of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council; Du Jie, deputy director of the Women's Studies Institute of China; Wei Guoying, professor from the Center for Research on Women's Issues at Home and Abroad at Peking University; and Yu Yan, deputy chief editor of China Women's News.
All the participants congratulated the CWU on the 15th anniversary of its Women Studies Faculty, and put forward suggestions for the university's talent cultivation plan, academic exchange and subject development.
Some 6 experts made speeches around the development of the women studies faculty during the meeting.
Afterwards, the sponsors held 8 sub-forums related to women's issues, including "The Construction of the Women Studies Faculty", "Research on Women's Studies", "Second-Child Policy in China", "Family Planning Policy and Women's Employment", "Reproductive Health and Family Planning Policy", "Childbearing Policy and Women's Rights" and "Second-Child Policy and Employment Protection".
This gathering in particular is one with milestone significance. It provided a platform for academic communication and gave clear tasks to the Women Studies Faculty, organizers said.
