CWU Holds Closing Ceremony for 2016 Military Training
China Women's University (CWU) held a closing ceremony for the latest military training on September 22, marking the start of the new school year.
CWU president Liu Liqun, vice-presidents Song Shengju and Wang Jingxia, and minister of the CWU's Armed Forces Department Han Yan participated in the event, which was presided over by Li Mingshun, Chairperson of the CWU Council.
Attendees also included Gong Fengqi, President of the Lizhi Training School for National Defense Education in Changping District of Beijing; political commissar Guo Chunhong; colonel Zhou Yangbo; members of the CWU's Defense Education Commission; and, teachers and directors from different departments.
To the sound of the national anthem, the Chinese flag was raised in the university's courtyard. Accompanied by the training instructors, CWU's leaders inspected 14 military parades which were composed of just over 1600 new students.
Students were in high spirits as they walked past the ceremonial platform. At the same time, a series of military training courses, such as those on defensive tactics, navy semaphore and field rescue were also held at the ceremony. The excellent performance of attendees was highly praised by the leaders and teachers present.
Upholding the school motto of “Virtus, Caritas, Scientia and Cultura”, the newcomers fully expressed the values of self-esteem, self-confidence, self-support and self-improvement. The exercise adequately represented students' youth and vitality, the school leaders said.
Zhou comprehensively summarized the 2016 military training. Song read out a recognition decision on “outstanding individuals and advanced collectives.” On behalf of all freshmen, one student representative made a speech during the activity. CWU vice-president Wang Jingxia presented a silk banner to the Lizhi Training School.
Liu concluded that such military training was important for freshmen. She encouraged students to make the best of the school library and internet resources in Beijing, and cherish the four-year campus life.
Liu hoped that the students could develop their independent learning ability, explore the unknown, actively participate in social work and take their theoretical knowledge into practice. She also shared the school motto with students and encouraged them to be elegant intellectuals and a public-spirited individuals.
