CWU Holds Forum on Women's Development and Cultural Communication

The first national forum on Women's Development and Cultural Communication was held at China Women's University (CWU) recently.

The forum, themed "Gender, Languages and Culture", attracted more than 50 experts and scholars from China and abroad.

The organizers invited 10 domestic experts to participate in the event and make several speeches, including Zhang Xiaoyuan, director of the Publicity Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF); Fang Hua, deputy director of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the PRC; Hu Zhengrong, president of the Communications University of China (CUC); and CWU president Liu Liqun.

At the meeting, Bo Wei, professor from the Journalism and Communication Research Center at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, introduced his research on the relationship between gender equality and cultural dissemination.

Zhang Kai, a teacher from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication at CUC and Liu Xiabei, a doctor from the College of Philosophy and Sociology at Beijing Normal University delivered speeches on women's subjective consciousness and risk investigation on cross cultural communication respectively.

Combined with their own experiences, Zheng Baowei, a professor from Renmin University of China, Ge Lan, a famous former Chinese TV announcer and Shou Jingxin, a distinguished CWU professor shared their research and accomplishments in feminine cultural communication.

Afterwards, the sponsors held three sub-forums related to women's issues, including "Women, Literature, Languages and Cross-Cultural Communication", "Cultural Industrial Innovation" and "The Modern Communication of Speech, Public Welfare and Traditional Culture".

Experts and scholars in attendance exchanged opinions on gender, languages and cultural communication, put forth their expectations for research on feminine cultural communication and suggested doing more grounded research to improve the public's awareness of cross-cultural communication.

This gathering in particular is one with milestone significance. It provided a platform for academic communication and gave clear tasks for cultural transmission, organizers said.

Attendees also included some 300 teachers and students from domestic and international higher institutes and scientific research institutions.
