ACWF VP Calls for Strengthened Ideological Work at CWU
The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held a meeting recently on ideological work at China Women's University (CWU). Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, addressed the event.
The gathering was held to thoroughly study the spirit of the meeting on ideological and political work in China's universities and colleges, and make future work plans in accordance with the CWU's conditions.
Song pointed out that the previous national meeting on ideological and political work in China's universities and colleges is a pioneering meeting of great importance.
Xi has fully affirmed the achievements made by college staff involved in higher education reform and ideological and political work, profoundly clarified issues on the development of higher education and the construction of ideological work, and pointed out the way for higher education and colleges featuring socialism with Chinese characteristics, Song said.
As the university shoulders the major responsibility of cultivating female talents, it must adhere to the correct political orientation, carry forward core socialist values, correctly carry out the education of Marxist theories and spread scientific world outlooks and methodology, Song added.
To meet the requirements of building information networks, the university should make full use of classroom teaching, strengthen teaching on ideological and political theory through online education platforms and occupy the internet position of advanced ideology and culture, Song said. She added that ideological and political work is fundamental work about individuals and must focus on students, serving them and helping them improve their political awareness, moral characteristics and humanistic quality.
Song stressed the importance of the leadership of the CWU's Party Committee, Communist Youth League and Student Affairs Office, asking them to join efforts to research students' ideological and political condition, carefully study the aims of ideological education, identify direction and develop a scientific curriculum according to students' learning characteristics.
Touching on the common problems in higher education institutes, Song called on the functional departments to perform their responsibilities, examine and face up to their own problems and uncover corresponding countermeasures.
As the first and only state-run women's university, Song hoped that the authorities could increase their contact with students, sincerely listen to their opinions and help them lay an ideological foundation for their lives.
The university should also highlight its features, develop a rigorous and diligent learning style and infuse its students with such values as self-esteem, self-confidence, self-support and self-improvement.
Adhering to the spirit of mass organizations reforms, Song called for efforts to ensure firm Party leadership and build the university into a stronghold of ideological and political construction.
During the meeting, Song and other Party members of the ACWF listened attentively to the reports made by CWU's Party Secretary Li Mingshun and President Liu Liqun on the university's basic situation and concrete measures in implementing ideological work.
Song evaluated the university's achievements in academic atmosphere building, spiritual civilization construction, ideological and political work and talent cultivation.
Hailing the contributions made by all the teachers and students, Song said the ACWF will attach greater importance to CWU's ideological and political work, spare no efforts to support the university's work and cultivate qualified successors for the socialist cause.
