Afghan Women's Delegation Visits CWU
An Afghan women's delegation visited China Women's University (CWU) in April at the invitation of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), where they attended a seminar.
Attendees also included CWU President Liu Liqun, Vice-President Wang Jingxia and directors from the International Cooperation Department, Scientific Research Management Office and Enrollment and Employment Office.
Liu warmly welcomed the visitors and introduced CWU's development history, academic characteristics, undergraduate curriculum, objectives in talent cultivation and its basic situation of international exchange.
Liu also laid out CWU's efforts and accomplishments in protecting women and children's rights and interests, and promoting gender equality as well as legislation on anti-domestic violence.
CWU initiated a foreign aid project for masters in social work in the first half of 2016 and received positive social feedback. As the first and the only State-owned women's university, CWU is committed to promoting international communication among women and will continue to develop institutionalized exchange programs in the future, Liu added.
China and Afghanistan have enjoyed a friendship with a long history as neighboring countries. Since the establishment of diplomatic relationship, the two countries have continuously achieved fruitful cooperative results at various fields, based on mutual understanding, respect and support.
The friendship has won popular support from both sides, and women's organizations in China are willing to work with Afghanistan to promote a strategic partnership, Liu added. She also hoped that women in both countries can contribute unremitting efforts in building a community with a common future in Asia.
Delbar Nazari, minister of the Department of Women's Affairs in Afghanistan, thanked the directors for their warm reception and shared Afghan's experiences in promoting gender equality and women's progress. In addition, she commented that she was impressed by CWU's achievements in increasing employment opportunities for female students, improving women's status, as well as promoting gender equality and women's development.
Nazari also exchanged opinions with the participants on CWU's foreign aid project and said that Afghan government appreciates China's efforts in promoting the progress of developing countries and is expecting to cooperate with China on global concerns. She hoped that more Afghan students could come to China and study at CWU in the future.
