The 4th speech contest of national defense for college students in Beijing was held in May at China Women's University (CWU). The competition was co-sponsored by CWU and Beijing National Defense Education Association (BNDEA).

The director of CWU's Student Affairs Office attended the event, which was presided over by a student from CWU's School of Culture and Communication.
Those competitors came from 12 higher institutes, including Tsinghua University (THU), Capital Normal University (CNU), China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA), Minzu University of China (MUC) and Beijing Sport University (BSU).
They recalled the eventful years and expressed the modern college students' firm determination for national defense from the perspective of the economy, culture, society, technology and information security.
During the competition, the host popularized the knowledge of national defense, including the contents of the National Defense Education Law of the People's Republic of China (PRC) passed by the ninth National People's Congress in April 2001 and the latest National Security Law of the PRC issued by the 12th National People's Congress in July 2015.
After intense competition, two students from CNU and CFAU got first place. Four students from USTB, BUAA, MUC and Beijing Jiaotong Vocational Technical College took silver. Six players from TSU, CWU, BSU, the Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing Polytechnic College and China Agricultural University took third place.
The organizers hoped the participants could improve their comprehensive qualifications, bring national defense knowledge back to the school, play a vanguard and exemplary role on campus and lead a good learning style of national defense construction.
Before the preliminary and the final, the organizers also invited experts and professors to instruct students on topics selection and the art of speaking. Those guests were from CWU, Chinese people's Liberation Army Air Force Command College, NDU and BNDEA.
The speech contest has become a brand of BMEC and aims to enhance students' national defense awareness, evoke their patriotic enthusiasm, make them realize the importance of national security and promote the development of national defense education.
