CWU Holds Seminar on Student Affairs for New Term
The Student Affairs Office and the Communist Youth League Committee (CYLC) of China Women's University (CWU) co-sponsored a conference on student affairs for the new term on September 7.
Li Mingshun, secretary of CWU Party Committee, and Sun Jianbei, CWU's Vice-President, participated in the event, which was presided over by Han Yan, director of CWU Student Affairs Office and secretary of CWU's CYLC.
Each of the departments and schools reported their own status of student affairs during the summer vacation and the beginning of the new semester. Focusing on the university's key points from 2017-2018, organizers widely solicited opinions and outlined the work ahead.
Li fully affirmed the departments' and schools' achievements in 2016 and emphasized that the focus of student affairs should be the publicity, study and implementation of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
The university should create a favorable environment for the upcoming National Congress and embrace the evaluation work with honor, Li urged. Li also put forward several requirements and hopes towards student affairs.
Firstly, building a student-oriented education system is important, Li said. Catering for the objectives of talent cultivation, educators should strengthen political and ideological education among students, uphold the student-oriented concept, attach great importance to students' development, establish a sincere and friendly relationship with students and deal with students' inner issues equitably.
Teachers should also uphold the conscience of educators, pay special attention to humanistic care, strengthen student-centered consciousness, focus on problem-oriented research methods, promote brand awareness and reinforce their awareness of assessment.
In addition, teachers should guide students to set up positive values of life and society, stimulate students' interest in study and cultivate their creative thinking. The teaching staff should also implant the assessment requirements of undergraduate education into the daily curriculum.
Li hoped that the relevant teachers could go further, highlight the features of CWU, and work together to build CWU into a top women's university.
Directors from the Teaching Affairs Office, Enrollment and Employment Department, and Security Department, also secretaries from different departments of the Party Branch participated in the event.
Secondly, it is necessary to strengthen the normalization of student affairs, study seriously experts' feedback and conduct self-evaluation accordingly.
Thirdly, improving the style of study through inspecting students' basic situation in classroom teaching, dormitories, community and social media application.
Moreover, the university's priority is to ensure students' personal and property safety, and construct a stable, harmonious, and disciplined campus.
Director of the Student Affairs Office reported the work of recruitment in 2017 and asked the relevant departments to fulfill their mission efficiently.
Directors from the functional departments, different schools and departments, secretaries from the North Campus's General Party Branch and all the counselors participated in the event.
