The Women of the World Festival made its debut in China over the weekend at Beijing's Tianqiao Performing Arts Center. Some 30 students from China Women's University (CWU) served as volunteers during the event and the closing ceremony.

The volunteers received professional training on basic knowledge of the Arts Center, the safety and reception etiquette issues.

CWU students arrived at the scene in advance and began working immediately. They strictly obeyed the relevant rules with a high sense of responsibility and mission.

During the meeting, volunteers held fast to their own positions in different departments, including the Art and Education Department, Executive Affairs Office and Flexible Management Department.

During the two days of voluntary service activities, the selected students took on work of peripheral guidance, issuing bracelets to guests and maintain order at the site.

The volunteers strove to finish their tasks efficiently. All the volunteers wore uniforms and unified cards. They set up a good image for the university and demonstrated the temperament and personalities of modern college students. The volunteers' performance was well received by the sponsors.

During the arts festival, CWU volunteers and their peers from different higher education institutes served nearly 3,000 people. They provided service on the scene of some 12 speeches, salons and interviews, and assisted the work of eight social experience activities, 30 booths and six improvisations.

The festival, also known as WOW, is a global movement launched in London in 2010 to celebrate the achievements women have made across the world. The festival was initiated by Jude Kelly, artistic director of London's Southbank Centre.

The two-day event included a series of talks, mentoring events, workshops, and even an under-10's feminist corner.

In the past seven years, the Women of the World festival has been held in 20 cities across five continents. More than a million people have participated in the globe's most influential cultural gathering for women.

With an overarching theme of "Be Your Better Self", WOW Beijing aims to provide an open creative platform for Chinese women, helping them to receive support and strength, and more importantly, to have women's voices heard.

The volunteers saw the world-class arts, got a glimpse of women arts' charm and achieved an even better understanding of women's arts. They said they will continue to carry forward CWU's spirit and create more possibilities for their campus lives.
