CWU Starts Reading Lessons for Students

 October 15, 2017

China Women's University (CWU) started a reading lesson on September 4, which was conducted by Ge Lan, an 85-year-old former TV announcer in China.

Some 81 students from different departments participated in the launch ceremony of the lesson.

Ge shared the objectives and planning of the lesson with students, introduced the teaching draft of the course and gave a lecture on the appreciation and analysis of outstanding literature works.

Taking "The Donkey of Qian" as an example, which was written by litterateur Liu Zongyuan (773-819) in the Tang Dynasty, Ge introduced ways to understand and explore the deeper meaning of the reading pieces. She also taught students to overcome the expression of seated tone and make the recitation sound smooth and memorable.

Ge's elaborate introduction and demonstration impressed those present. Students listened to Ge carefully and practiced reading and broadcasting actively.

Traditional Chinese classics is one of the components of the special Boya course of the university's School of Culture and Communication. Reciting Chinese classics gave students the chance to understand reading, study it and then love it. The course will be recorded throughout and archived as precious material.

It is reported that the School of Culture and Communication also set up courses for all students from different departments. The courses included the appreciation of Wen Tingyun's poetry, the promotion of knowledge on media and classics reading in families, anthologies of classical literature and Chinese modern and contemporary poetry recitation.

In addition, the School of Culture and Communication established several optional courses about classics reading, which were sponsored by three different departments. The organizers have invited senior teachers to participate in the project.
