CWU Holds Ceremony to Conclude Summer Military Training, Start New Semester
China Women's University (CWU) held a ceremony to mark the beginning of the 2017 semester and conclude the military training for new students in Changping Li Zhi National Defense Education Training School in Beijing on September 30.
Liu Liqun, president of CWU, chaired the ceremony.
Other attendees included: Zhang Bing, an investigator from Beijing Municipal Education Commission (BMEC); Li Mingshun, Party secretary of CWU; and, Liu Meng, Wang Jingxia, Wang Lian, Sun Jianbei, vice presidents of CWU.
Han Yan, minister of the Armed Police Forces; Gong Fengqi, president of Changping Li Zhi National Defense Education Training School; and leaders of related departments and staff were also present at the event.
As the national flag rose slowly to the national anthem, Liu Liqun inspected the parade of 20 military training teams. All of the teams marched in step with the Military Anthem of the People's Liberation Army, showing high morale as they passed the rostrum.
Students demonstrated three military exercises showcasing the CWU's motto "virtue, love, erudition, beauty" and the spirit of "self-esteem, self-confidence and independence."
Participants fully demonstrated their commitment and vitality, according to officials. The students' performance won loud applause from leaders and teachers.
Wang Yuhua, head of the military training corps, summed up the training for 2017, and Guo Chunhong, the commissar of the military training corps, announced commendations to award advanced collectives and outstanding individuals.
Deng Yu, a trainee, made a speech on behalf of her 1,602 fellow students. Vice president of CWU, Liu Meng, presented a banner to the military training base.
Zhang Bing, an investigator from BMEC, affirmed the achievements of CWU's military training and national defense education. He said the activity was important way for young students to perform their obligations of military service, and for contemporary college students to participate in military training.
He added that it was an important link for cultivating high-quality talents, and plays an irreplaceable role in improving students' comprehensive qualities compared with other forms of education.
He hoped that the students could cherish their training achievements, learn discipline, unity, cooperation, hard work, always be ready to win in the development of the motherland and do their part in defending China.
Li Mingshun said he expected all students to cherish their ideals, have a good plan for academic pursuit, and arrange their living well. He hoped students could have a dream, strive for it whilst making their contribution to the great cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, and keep up unremitting efforts to improve their own personality, tenacious character, elegance, self-esteem, self-confidence and independence.
At the event, all the students made an oath to grow into all-round talents with public service awareness and elegance, in order to achieve the Chinese Dream and CWU dream.
The ceremony finished with a performance of the school song.
