China Women's University (CWU) held an opening ceremony for the latest military training course for freshmen on September 18. A total of 1,601 new students participated in the ceremony and will take part in the training.
Participants also included Gong Fengqi, president of the Training School for Lizhi National Defense Education in Changping District of Beijing; Ding Xinya and Zhang Xiaoliang, deputy political commissars of the training group; and Han Yan, director of the CWU Armed Forces Department.
During the ceremony, Sun Jianbei, vice-president of the university, handed over the group flag to the military training group. Political Commissar Guo Chunhong announced the list of trainees. Wang Yuhua, head of the group, mobilized the trainees and affirmed their determination to train rigorously.
A freshmen representative delivered a speech and expressed his confidence and resolution to complete the training objectives. He said all trainees will follow instructions, train hard, and learn a high degree of political awareness, favorable study attitude and good character from the instructors. In addition, they will carry forward the CWU's spirit of self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement, temper their willpower and learn to forgive and endure hardship, which laid a solid foundation for the first class on campus.
The military training is the foundation for all freshmen to start their university life. It is also a milestone of growth for their future lives. Vice-President Sun emphasized that the faculty and students should strengthen their awareness of national defense, teamwork, contribution and cooperation, and encouraged them to complete their tasks. Sun hoped the training course could evoke students' team spirit and collective concept, develop the traits of tenacity and the habit of taking action.
Sun also hoped students could really understand the meaning of discipline, norms and truths for living, obey the command of instructors and teachers and fulfill the training objectives of "Safety First, Quality Assurance and Presenting Highlights".
