Namibian First Lady Monica Geingos paid a visit to China Women's University (CWU) in Beijing on March 30.

Her husband, Namibian President Hage Geingob, was on a State visit to China from March 28 to April 3 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), extended a warm welcome to Geingos for her visit to China and CWU during their meeting.

Xia hoped that the two countries would work together to promote the development of women and children's affairs in the future.

Li Mingshun, Secretary of CWU's Party Committee, presented an honorary professor certificate on behalf of CWU to Geingos during her visit there.

In her speech, Geingos said that it was a great privilege to be an honorary CWU professor. She drew inspiration from her personal growth experience to demonstrate that education can not only disseminate knowledge, but also positively transform lives of women.

Geingos gave an introduction of Namibia's efforts and progress in the promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment. She also shared her insights on how to find an ideal spouse, how to advance the career development of female students, how to dispel the stereotypes that women face in the society, and even how to become a First Lady during an interaction with local college students and other attendees.

Prior to the conclusion of her speech, Geingos called on female college students to keep pace with the times, work hard both in their academic studies and self-improvement, and contribute more to social and women's development in the new era.

CWU President Liu Liqun presided over the certificate presentation ceremony. She noted that Geingos' insights and aspiration for the promotion of gender equality and women's development were almost identical to the mission and values observed by CWU.

As the only national-level university reserved for the cultivation of female talents in China, CWU is committed to contributing to the development of women-oriented higher education, the dissemination of advanced gender-based culture, and the promotion of women's participation in social and economic growth in the coming years, Liu said in her speech.

She continued that CWU would further strengthen communication and cooperation with its Namibian counterparts, especially local women-centered universities, in the joint cultivation of more outstanding female talents and promotion of the social and economic development of the two countries.
