Role-models Share Inspirational Stories of Volunteering in NW Region

Three college graduates shared their inspirational stories and experiences of volunteering in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at a gathering at China Women's University (CWU) on April 19.

The event was the latest in a series of presentations jointly sponsored by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League (CYL), the National Office of Voluntary Services in Western China, the Xinjiang's Regional CYL Committee, and the Xinjiang Regional Office of Voluntary Services in Western China.

At the event, designed to help more people learn about volunteering in Xinjiang, organizers released a promotional video to encourage student recruits.

CWU graduate Yang Mengying talked with participants about the services and her experiences in the western region. In addition, she encouraged others to follow her suit and devote themselves in voluntary affairs.

Yan Wei, deputy secretary of the CYL Committee in the local Hotan Prefecture, gave an introduction on the ethnic county-level region and briefed attendees about preferential policies, registration procedures and treatment in relation to voluntary services.

For their part, many college students expressed a willingness to engage in such services and other forms of assistance in Hotan.

Li Mingshun, secretary of CWU Party Committee, and several other officials from the university, held talks with invited lecturers on the sidelines of the gathering.

Li stressed that the CWU has always prioritized the work of volunteer services in western China since it is of great significance to the formation of positive values, beliefs and dreams amongst participants, and added that the university would hold both online and offline recruitment activities to attract the support of more students.

Those present at the gathering included officials from Beijing Voluntary Services Guidance Center and over 100 students from CWU.
