Tan Lin, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), held a lecture about the key points of this year's annual two sessions at China Women's University (CWU) on April 17.

The lecture was presided over by Li Mingshun, secretary of the CWU Party Committee.

Tan, who is also a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), gave a brief introduction of the first session of the 13th NPC and its major decisions.

She shared her understandings and insights of China's key political system, the differences between lawmakers in China and parliamentary members in western countries, and the legal procedures involved in NPC deputies coming forward with their proposals.

According to Tan, lawmakers and political advisors from the ACWF submitted nine proposals at the first session of the 13th NPC and another one at the first session of the National Committee of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) last month.

The topics of these proposals ranged from joint debts between husbands and wives to domestic violence, women's equal rights to land and employment, and the inclusion of family education into the NPC's five-year legislative planning.

Tan called on CWU teachers and students to make a closer implementation of the key points of this year's annual two sessions, better meet the demands of social development, and assume their responsibilities in the new era.

Li said in his speech that Tan's lecture had further deepened their understanding of the recently concluded key political gatherings and provided them with more guidance in their compliance with all decisions and arrangements made by the CPC Central Committee.

He urged staff members and students to integrate what they had learnt of the latest key political sessions into their personal work and accomplish all objectives and targets concerning the CWU's development and reform this year.

Those present at the gathering included Liu Meng, Wang Jingxia, Wang Lian and Sun Jianbei, all of whom are vice-presidents of the CWU; Zhao Hao, member of the CWU's standing committee; and all faculty and student representatives.

According to organizers, the event is part of a campaign in which ACWF officials are expected to give lectures and other forms of interactions with college teachers and students during their visits.
